Pokémon Scarlet and Violet new Pokémon list, including every confirmed Gen 9 Pokémon

Lechonk indeed.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's new Pokémon collection is one of the main draws for the new entries in the mainline Pokémon series.

Now that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been released, you can find all of the Gen 9 Pokémon introduced in those games below!

This Pokémon Scarlet and Violet new Pokémon list also includes the new Gen 9 Pokémon released as part of Pokémon Day 2023 and the legendary Pokémon arriving as part of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.

On this page:

Welcome to the Paldea region! | Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero new Pokémon list

The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will introduce five new legendary Gen 9 Pokémon to the Pokémon universe. Four of these Pokémon will arrive in Part 1: The Teal Mask, while the fifth, and final, legendary comes in Part 2: The Indigo Disk.

It's important to note that The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will also contain over 230 Pokémon from past generatinons who didn't originally appear in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. These Pokémon will be spread across The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk. Since this page is focused upon Gen 9 specifically, we won't cover which past generation Pokémon are returning, but, if you are interested, visit our guide covering The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC details.

One of the legendary Pokémon introduced in Part 1: The Teal Mask is Ogerpon, who is described as wearing a 'fearsome' mask by the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website. This mask appears to be decorated with Terastal crystals.

While we're yet to see what Ogerpon's face truly looks like, we were given a glimpse at the end of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC trailer. There you can see that Ogerpon has yellow eyes and what happens to be a thorny vine wrapped around its face. Maybe Ogerpon is quite cute beneath its mask!

The name Ogerpon and the setting of Kitakami seemingly being inspired by Japan suggests that Ogerpon has been inspired by oni - demon-like creatures from Japanese folklore.

Part 1: The Teal Mask will also introduce Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti. The official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website explains that these three Pokémon are 'beloved by the people of the village as heroes' as they 'protected the land of Kitakami in the past'. In thanks the villagers created stone statues of these Pokémon.

Okidogi resembles a dog, Munkidori is clearly inspired by monkeys and Fezandipiti could take inspiration from a pheasant. Keeping these three designs in mind, there's a chance all three Pokémon may be inspired by a character from Japanese folklore, Momotarō.

Born from a giant peach, Momotarō befriended a talking dog, monkey and pheasant on his journey to defeat a band of oni. If these three Pokémon are inspired by Momotarō then maybe they will be connected to Ogerpon in a similar manner in the Pokémon universe...

Okidogi, Munkidori and Fezandipiti.

Terapagos is the legendary Pokémon arriving in Part 2: The Indigo Disk.

Interestingly, this technically isn't Terapagos' first appearance since a sketch which looks awfully similar to this Pokémon appears in both the Scarlet and Violet books. The entry accompanying the sketch talks about how the author encountered the Pokémon in the depths of Area Zero and how it resembles a 'mysterious, brilliant disk.'

Terapagos takes obivious inspiration from turtles and could be a reference to the world turtle, which is the believe that the world is flat and held aloft by four elephants on the back of a turle. (Think of Discworld's Great A'Tuin.) This idea comes from the fact that Terapagos' body resembles the geography of Paldea, with the central crystal being Great Crater of Paldea.

Terapagos' shell is also decorated with the 18 Pokémon type icons and, considering its crystal-like design, we have to wonder if this legendary is connected to Terastallizing...

  • Height - 0.6 m
  • Weight - 2.4 kg

While Squawkabilly doesn't evolve, it does have four different forms - Blue, Green, Yellow and White. Each of these forms has its own Pokédex entry in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

The Green Squawkabilly Pokédex entry in Scarlet explains that 'These Pokémon prefer to live in cities. They form flocks based on the color of their feathers, and they fight over territory.' While, in Violet, this Squawkabilly form's Pokédex entry reads, 'Green-feathered flocks hold the most sway. When they're out searching for food in the mornings and evenings, it gets very noisy.'

This is a Pokémon who believes in a fair fight and will take on any challenger no matter how powerful they are.

Due to these blades, Ceruledge prefers close-quarters combat and will do anything, including sneak attacks, to win a battle. You'll want to avoid those blades too, because your life energy will flow from any cut they leave.

According to the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website, Bellibolt 'expands and contracs its elastic body to generate electricity in an organ that looks like a belly button.' This electricity is then 'discharged from the two bumps on eiher side of its head that resemble eyeballs.' Its eyes are, in fact, the yellow ovals above its mouth!

The paint seen in Grafaiai's reveal trailer is actually posionous saliva, which 'paralyzes Bug Pokémon' that 'are drawn to the salvia's sweet, fragrant scent.' Once these Pokémon have been, the official website claims Grafaiai collect them, which sounds an awful lot like eatting them to me.

Check out Grafaiai, a very territorial Pokémon! | Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet

  • Ability - Mycelium Might

Klawf

  • Type - Rock
  • Category - Ambush Pokémon
  • Height - 1.3 m
  • Weight - 79 kg
  • Ability - Anger Shell or Shell Armor

Klawf is a crab who enjoys climbing onto cliffs so it can ambush its prey. According to the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website, Klawf 'eventually gets dizzy from the blood rushing to its head' when hanging upside down on cliffs, so it doesn't stay in this position for long.

Avoiding Klawf's claws is a must, because, once caught, this Pokémon's prey can not escape its grasp. Klawf 'uses one claw to hold its opponent in place while using the other to break its guard and hit it where it hurts.' These claws are also considered a valuable cooking ingredient in the Paldea region - maybe they go well with a side of Slowpoke tails?

The Anger Shell is a new Ability to the Pokémon series where, when Pokémon's HP drops to half or less, it becomes angry. In this state, the Pokémon's Defense and Special Defense are lowered, but its Attack, Special Attack and Attack recieve a boost.

  • Height - 0.2 m
  • Weight - 1 kg

  • Category - Garden Eel Pokémon
  • Height - 1.2 m
  • Weight - 1.8 kg
  • Ability - Gooey / Rattled

Wiglett, despite its appearance and name, is not related to Diglett. Appartently it's all one big conincidence, which, if you ask me, sounds a little suspicious.

Putting my personal Pokémon conspiracy theories aside, you can find Wiglett on the beaches of the Paldea region. There it burrows through the sand and emerges to feed in the ocean. Wiglett is known for having an amazing sense of smell, being able to pick up scents from over 60 feet away according to the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website, and, when it sniffs out another Pokémon, it hides beneath the sand.

What no-one knows, however, is how long a Wiglett actually is and what the rest of its body looks like...

While Palafin's Zero Form looks incredibly similar to Finizen, switching out a Pokémon for Palafin in battle will transform it into this Pokémon's Hero Form.

Palafin has two Pokédex entries in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet for both of its forms. The Hero Form Pokédex entry in Pokémon Scarlet explains that 'This hero of the ocean swims at a speed of 50 knots and saves drowning people and Pokémon.'

Koraidon and Miraidon

Koraidon and Miradion are the two main Legendary Pokémon for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, along with being the mascot Pokémon for the games - Koraidon for Scarlet and Miraidon for Violet.

Koraidon is a fighting and dragon-type Pokémon, while Miraidon is an electric and dragon-type creature.

When first revealed, The Pokémon Company stated that, 'These two Pokémon are said to have powers that far surpass those of other Pokémon, but details about Koraidon and Miraidon are still shrouded in mystery.'

You'll first encounter either Koraidon or Miradion in the opening hour of your journey. They will, eventually, come to act as a form of transporation. (Yes - if chose to play Pokémon Violet, you will be using a legendary Pokémon as a motorcycle.)

Alongside the abilties to climb, jump higher and dash, there are three different forms of legendary transportation - with Koraidon's version being referred to as 'Build' and Miradion's as 'Mode' in the runup to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's release:

  • Sprinting Build or Drive Mode - allows you to travel across Paldea at a faster speed. (Goodbye bicyle!)
  • Swimming Build or Aquatic Mode - traverse any body of water you encounter.
  • Gliding Build or Glide Mode - fly through the sky on the back of a legend!

If you'd like to learn how to unlock these forms of transporation, visit our how to fly, swim, climb, dash and high jump in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet page.
