Pokémon Go Mountains of Power quest steps, field research and spawns explained

Everything you need to know about the Mountains of Power event.

The Mountains of Power event in Pokémon Go highlights creatures who make their home in mountainous regions - from Onix to, of course, Zubat.

Throughout this event, you'll be able to complete a short timed research quest and collect exclusive field research.

Mountains of Power also includes the debut of Mega Aerodactyl, giving you the opportunity to fill in another entry in the Mega Pokémon section of your Pokédex.

Mountains of Power quest steps in Pokémon Go

Below you'll find all of the challenges and rewards for the Mountains of Power timed research quest in Pokémon Go. Since this is a timed research quest, you have until Thursday, 13th January at 8pm (local time) to complete this questline. If you don't, you'll lose the opportunity to earn its rewards.

Here are the Mountains of Power quest steps - just be wary of spoilers:

'Mountains of Power' Step 1 of 2

Rewards: 1000 Stardust, 10 Great Balls and Absol encounter

'Mountains of Power' Step 2 of 2

  • Catch 6 different species of Pokémon - Chimecho encounter
  • Earn 2 Candies walking with your buddy - Onix encounter
  • Hatch 2 Eggs - Beldum encounter

Rewards: 2000 Stardust, 10 Ultra Balls and Mawile encounter


The Season of Rising Heroes is here! Currently the A Valorous Hero event is running, bringing with it Mega Pinsir and the A Valorous Hero special research quest. The new Grass and Gratitude quest allows you to catch a mythical Shaymin! A new Team Go Rocket quest - From The Shadows - has been released, along with a shake up of the Giovanni and Team Go Rocket Leaders lineups. As you continue your Pokémon Go adventure, make sure to battle in the new Go Battle League season. Don't forget to take a look at the Remote Raid Passes changes or, if you purchased it, work on the Masterwork Research: Wish Granted quest. Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres. This incense may also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.


Mountains of Power field research tasks in Pokémon Go

Throughout the Mountains of Power event in Pokémon Go, you'll be able to collect a selection of exclusive field research tasks by spinning PokéStops. These tasks can be saved and completed once the event ends, so you can finish them later if you wish.

Mountains of Power spawns and event bonuses in Pokémon Go

The Mountains of Power event sees the debut of Mega Aerodactyl in Pokémon Go, so join a mega raid to start collecting Mega Energy for this Pokémon.

Heatran has also returned to five-star raids, while four Pokémon - Ursaring, Donphan, Medicham and Absol - are appearing in three-star raids. In one-star raids, you can battle Alolan Geodude, Onix, Beldum and Bronzor.

The shiny versions of Slugma and Magcargo, its evolution, have also been released as part of Mountains of Power. Slugma is one of the Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild, so keep an eye out to see if you can add another shiny to your collection!

The other Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild, include:

  • Zubat
  • Machop
  • Geodude
  • Onix
  • Nosepass
  • Barboach
  • Ferroseed
Zubat, Machop and Geodude are some of the Pokémon which are appearing more frequently in the wild during this event.

Mountains of Power date and times in Pokémon Go

The Mountains of Power event in Pokémon Go is running between Friday, 7th January to Thursday, 13th January and ending at 8pm (local time).

This gives you a good amount of time to collect and complete any of the field research tasks which catch your eye and catch the Pokémon which are spawning more regularly in the wild.
