Pokémon Go Mega Latios weakness, counters and best Latios moveset

Mega Latios back in the world of Pokémon Go! While you can’t ride it around the map like you can in the main-series games, it’s still an excellent addition to your team.

To get Mega Latios, you need to Mega Evolve a Latios you have already caught using Latios Mega Energy obtained primarily though Mega Raids. This means that you must first defeat the Gen 3 Mega Eon Pokémon if you want to add it to your Mega Pokédex in Pokémon Go.

Like most Mega Raids, this is a tough Pokémon to take on solo without maxed out perfect counters. To make life easy, we recommend teaming up with other trainers and who understand Mega Latios’s weakness and can bring the best Mega Latios counters.

Mega Latios counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go

Below you can find the Mega Latios weaknesses, with a list of the best counters and how to use them to defeat this Raid Boss in Pokémon Go:

• Mega Latios type – Dragon and Psychic
• Mega Latios is weak against – Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fairy, Ghost and Ice types
• Mega Latios mega counters – Mega Gengar, Mega Salamence and Mega Gardevoire. Of course, Mega Latios and Mega Latias are candidates, but like Mega Salamence, they will be naturally weak to Latios.
• Mega Latios counters: – Rayquaza, Dialga, Salamence, Zekrom, Hydreigon, Giratina (Origin, ideally), Dragonite, Palkia, and Reshiram are your top choices here, but all of these are obviously weak to Dragons. If you want something less exposed, you're looking at Zacian, Darkrai, Gengar, Hoopa (Unbound) and Chandelure.
• Other Mega Latios notes: Dragon is the type of choice when battling Mega Latios, but comes with the risk of mutually assured destruction. If you don’t have many strong dragon-type Pokémon, or you simply don’t want to use your body weight in Revives, perhaps consider Ghost, Dark, Ice or Fairy types to beat Latios.

• Mega Latios max CP – 5428
• CP range for catching Latios – 2090 to 2178
• CP weather Boost CP (Windy) for catching Latios – 2613 to 2723

As you continue your Pokémon Go adventure, make sure to battle in the new Go Battle League season. Don't forget to take a look at the Remote Raid Passes changes or, if you purchased it, work on the Masterwork Research: Wish Granted quest. Elsewhere, be sure to use Daily Adventure Incense for the chance of encountering Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos and Galarian Moltres. This incense may also give you encounters with other rare Pokémon in Pokémon Go.

Latios Moveset in Pokémon Go

Latios, like every Pokémon in Pokémon Go, can use a variety of Fast and Charged Moves. The best combination depends entirely on how you want to use it, but you're ideally looking at either Zen Headbutt and Psychic or Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw.

• Luster Purge (Legacy, Psychic)

Shiny Mega Latios in Pokémon Go

The shiny versions of Latios and Latias are both available in the world of Pokémon Go, which means that their Mega Shinies are also in the game for those who are lucky enough to catch them.

Amusingly, while Latios, Latias, shiny Latios and shiny Latias take on different colours — blue, red, green and gold respectively – Mega Latios and Mega Latias are near identical. Both are purple and white, with the same markings on their arms – the only difference is the colour of the Pokémon’s irises, with Mega Latios having red eyes and Mega Latias having orange eyes.

This similaity and difference carries though to the Mega shines, which simply swap purple for green. Weirdly, this does make Mega Latias look a bit more like a Mega Evolved Latios, but what can you do!?
