How to get Lightsabers in Fortnite and how to use Lightsabers explained

I have a bad feeling about this.

You need to find Lightsabers and use Lightsabers in order to complete some Star Wars 2023 Find the Force challenges in Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2.

This Star Wars crossover is a little different than the rest, as completing Find the Force challenges will reward points towards a mini battle pass, packed with Star Wars cosmetics - including free and premium skins.

To help you get more Star Wars rewards, we've detailed how to get Lightsabers, and how to use Lightsabers in Fortnite below.

For help with other Find the Force quests, check out our page on how to learn force abilities.

How to get Lightsabers in Fortnite

To get Lightsabers in Fortnite you need to speak with the holograms of Obi-Wan, Anakin, or Darth Maul and learn force abilities from them. Once you do, a rift will open. When you step through the rift, a Lightsaber will automatically appear in your inventory and you're free to recreate the dual of the fates with any unlucky opponent you come across.

Actually finding one of the three Star Wars NPCs is the hard part, as if another player gets to them first, they diappear and spawn in another area. You can check to see where Obi-Wan, Anakin, or Darth Maul are spawning by looking out for Jedi or Sith icons on the map, like the Darth Maul one below:

You can also find Lightsabers by eliminating opponents who have one, but this involves a bit more luck. You also won't learn force abilities this way, which can put you at a huge disadvantage against an opponent who has learned them.

We haven't come across any Lightsabers as floor loot or in chests, but this might change with future updates.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 is here and with it comes Force Abilites and Lightsabers in the Star Wars 2023 event and a new selection of Battle Pass skins! Take a look at the Eren Jaeger skin too! If this is something you want, take a look at our challenge guides that show you the Jaeger's Family Basement location, plus how to find and use ODM Gear. Don't forget to complete the new challenges, including winning arcade games, knocking back players with the Kinetic Blade, shooting targets while on a Grind Rail and restoring health or shields on a Grind Rail. Meanwhile, learn what the best weapons are, new map changes, how to get XP fast, use the best PC settings, earn the Victory Umbrella and earn a Victory Crown.

How to use Lightsabers in Fortnite

There are two basic ways to use a Lightsaber in Fortnite:

  • Press the shoot button to attack
  • Press the aim button to block

Attacking with a Lightsaber works similar to other melee weapons, but the block ability is very useful for parrying gunfire at medium and long distances - particulary against the DC-15 Blaster.

Just be careful when blocking at close range, as weapons like a shotgun pretty much bypass a Lightsaber's blocking ability - meaning it's not really worth it to block at short range unless you're in a Lightsaber duel.

Additionally, when you get a Lightsaber from Obi-Wan, Anakin, or Darth Maul, you also gain force abilities. With the Lightsaber equipped, double tap the jump button to perform a higher Force Jump, press the jump button while blocking to evade, or press the shoot button while blocking to use Force Throw, Pull, or Push, depending on what ability you learned.

You have to wait a little while in between performing these force abilities. It took 15 seconds for our Force Throw to recharge, but this might be different depending on what power you have.

Fortnite Lightsabers list

Although they all control the exact same, there are three different Lightsabers in Fortnite. What Lightsaber you receive from the Star Wars NPCs depends on which character you learn force abilities from.

Here's the current Fortnite Lightsaber list and how to get them:

  • Green Jedi Padawan Lightsaber (get from Obi-Wan)
  • Blue Jedi Padawan Lightsaber (get from Anakin)
  • Red Sith Apprentice Lightsaber (get from Darth Maul)

Each Lightsaber takes up an inventory slot, and basically acts like a stronger pickaxe melee weapon.
