Elden Ring Stonesword Key locations and where to use them

Sword in the lock.

Stonesword Key are items which can help you access locked locations across Elden Ring.

Not dissimilar to something like the Pharros Lockstone in Dark Souls 2, each consumable key can be used once - so learning where to find Stonesword Key locations, and the best places to use them, is worth knowing, especially as they often lead to valuable treasures.

Remember - Stonesword Keys are precious resources, so use them wisely!

Where to find Stonesword Key locations early in Elden Ring

What follows is a list of Stonesword Key locations we've discovered in the early locations of Elden Ring. There are likely more out there - both in Limgrave and beyond - but this is hopefully handy if you want to get some as soon as possible:

  • A Stonesword Key is a possible Keepsake item when you create a character at the start of the game.
  • Sold by Patches in Murkwater Cave for 5,000 Runes
  • Next to a shack in Stormhill:
  • On a corpse at the south end of the Bridge of Sacrifice, located between south-east Limgrave and Weeping Peninsula:
  • Sold by a merchant in Weeping Peninsula for 2000 Runes:
  • Sold by Enia in the Roundtable Hold following the defeat of Godrick the Grafted

What's behind the Stranded Graveyard Stonesword Key door?

Why the Stonesword Key might be of immediate interest is you'll encounter a location before you emerge into the open world of Limgrave.

Towards the end of the tutorial area of the Standed Graveyard area you'll notice an entryway locked by a Stonesword Key.

This takes you to Fringefolk Hero's Grave, a challenging dungeon that is worth holding off as long as you can and few immediate accessible rewards to make a risky explore worthwhile.

If you are super keen, then make sure you sprint through the poison at the very start - you can make it round the corner just before it builds up and kicks in - then observe the chariot racing back and forth. And yes, it follows your progress!

In short - we'd recommend saving your Stonesword Key for another location with better rewards...

Once you have settled on a starting class and starting Keepsake item, you should first work out how to level up, how to respec and use Ashes of War. Need some direction from there? Our Elden Ring walkthrough and Elden Ring boss order can help with where to go next, but we also recommend hunting down Golden Seeds, Sacred Tears, Crystal Tears, Talismans and some of our best weapon and best armor choices. If you are approaching the end game, we can help with the Volcano Manor quest and Rykard, Haligtree Secret Medallion locations, solving the Ordina, Liturgical Town puzzle, the Millicent quest, Commander Niall, Morgott, Godskin Duo, Maliketh and Malenia.

Where else can you use the Stonesword Key in early locations?

Other areas you can use a Stonesword Key in early game locations include:

  • South-east of Summonwater Village is a crypt containing a cave with the Green Turtle Talisman, which increases your stamina recovery:
